Move 78 este o trupă de jazz din Berlin (S-D): Doron Segal (clape), Hal Strewe (bass), Nir Sabag (tobe), Aver (sampler/producție) și Meravi Goldman (corn francez).
Muzica lor este rezultatul a ore de improvizații în studio care au fost apoi tăiate și rearanjate. Această abordare pe mai multe straturi a ajutat la crearea sunetului caracteristic al trupei: un echilibru între jazz care curge liber și hip-hop automatizat, programat.
Move 78 are a Berlin-based jazz band (L-R): Doron Segal (keyboards), Hal Strewe (bass), Nir Sabag (drums) Aver (sampler/production) and Meravi Goldman (French horn).
The band’s music is crafted from hours of studio improvisations that have then been chopped-up, rearranged, and layered with additional strings, flute and horns. This many-layered approach has helps to create the band’s signature sound: a balance between free flowing jazz and automated, programmed hip-hop.
Numele trupei este inspirat de un meci de GO renumit (un vechi joc chinezesc) dintre Lee Sedol, campionul mondial la Go la acea vreme, și un program de calculator numit AlphaGo. După ce a fost înfrânt în primele trei jocuri ale meciului de cinci jocuri de către adversarul său bazat pe inteligență artificială, Sedol a uimit spectatorii și comentatorii adaptând și aplicând o mutare atât de ciudată încât a derutat complet AlphaGo și algoritmii săi, ceea ce a determinat programul să caute date istorice pentru a înțelege ce se întâmplă.
Mutarea – care a reprezentat răspunsul uman al Sedol care se adaptează pentru a face față provocărilor unei lumi tehnologice în continuă evoluție – a fost Mutarea 78.
The band name is inspired by a famous Go match (an ancient Chinese board game) between Lee Sedol, the world champion of Go at the time, and a computer program named AlphaGo. Having been destroyed in the first three games of the five-game match by his AI-powered opponent, Sedol stunned spectators and commentators by adapting and playing a move so strange that it completely baffled AlphaGo and its algorithms, leading the program to scramble for historical data to make sense of it.
The move – which represented Sedol’s human response adapting to meet the challenges of an ever-evolving technological world – was move 78.
Din 2021, Move 78 a lansat două albume de studio („The Algorithm Smiles Upon You” și „Automated Improvisation”). Ambele au fost difuzate pe radiourile naționale din Germania, Marea Britanie, Franța, Japonia și SUA, și ascultate intens pe posturi de radio online precum Worldwide FM, NTS și NPR, dar și în playlist-uri pe Spotify și Apple Music, însumând în total peste 7 milioane de difuzări.

Since 2021 Move 78 have released a 7” double a-side single, a 10” drum break record and two 12” studio albums: “The Algorithm Smiles Upon You” and “Automated Improvisation”. Both received national radio play in Germany, UK, France, Japan and USA, widespread play on internet stations such as Worldwide FM, NTS and NPR, as well as editorial playlisting on Spotify and Apple Music, with all their releases combined having received over 7 million streams.
